The New World Order – Library Administration in the Digital Era

View the webinar

Back in the day, it was a librarian’s job to Acquire, Collect, Organize, Retrieve, and Disseminate (ACORD) information. Now, traditional library administration responsibilities, like cataloging, are more important than ever in the digital landscape.  Acquisitions and materials selection decisions are far more complex than they used to be. Format change occurs so fast that many libraries stopped circulating certain media types altogether – audio, for instance. In Emerging Tech’s August webinar, presenter Michelle Luhtala challenges library administration as we’ve known it. She questions what tasks are still important and explains that some must be relinquished.  She covered topics including Dewey, inventory, cataloging, materials selection, and acquisitions. This webinar is presented by Michelle Luhtala, the Head Librarian at New Canaan High School in New Canaan, Connecticut.  She is the winner of the 2011 “I Love My Librarian” Award, the 2010 National School Library Program of the Year (NSLPY), and the Connecticut Library Association’s 2010 Outstanding Librarian Award.
