Live video streaming is an affordable, effective way of disseminating school news and connecting with parents and your community. Just as important, this approach to video broadcasting can support a range of instructional and extracurricular programs, from virtual and distance learning to student productions, school sports and student performances.
Starting a program can become complicated and expensive if you’re not aware of newly available tools and approaches. In this webinar, Andrew Haley, a former educator and now an Education Specialist with Telestream and Ben Barnholdt, a high school film teacher at Whitney High School in Rocklin, CA covered the basics of starting a live streaming program, sharing their insights and experiences with this new video broadcasting technology. They covered everything from morning announcements, sporting events, and graduations to science fairs, PTAs, and school assemblies. Ben Barnholdt shared his approach to starting an award-winning broadcasting program at his school.

Andrew Haley works for Telestream, Inc., where he helps K-12 schools and districts and several colleges and universities develop and implement live streaming programs to support distance learning and a range of educational broadcasting needs. Earlier in his career, Andrew taught at the middle school level and he also started his own video production company, KoGV Film. Andrew holds a BA from UC, Santa Cruz with a double major in Politics and Film and Digital Media, and he received his California Teaching Credential from National University in 2010.
Ben Barnholdt has been teaching for more than 15 years, and he’s now in his eighth year teaching video production at Whitney High School, in Rocklin, California. Ben teaches students the processes of production, which is supported with live streaming technologies. His experience includes working with students and technology on larger broadcast projects, such as creating daily announcement shows and producing live events that stream on ESE Networks during the football season.
