This edWebinar is part one of our three-part series, Making Your Math Class a Model to Behold, which addressed the steps you can take as a teacher to make your mathematics classroom as successful as possible for you and your students. It focused on the research-based strategies around the Standards for Mathematical Practice.

The 3rd Standard for Mathematical Practice asks students to construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. Many regard this as the single most stimulating of the 8 SMP’s, but how can you ace it every day? This session outlined expectations for enacting SMP3. Mathematics expert Steve Leinwand provided simple yet practical guidelines and methods for every teacher, from the novice to the seasoned pro. He also provided guidance for the math coach or principal on how to see that a teacher is making strides with this standard.
