The Research Process

Emerging TechWith or without the Common Core, there is a renewed focus on inquiry in K-12 education. Students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in research skills, but they seldom have a clear understanding of how to grow their learning – how to shift from superficial, fact-finding overviews, to deep, targeted, and detailed evidence collection. This edWeb.net Emerging Tech webinar was dedicated to developing instruction that helps students with that transition. Michelle Luhtala, Head Librarian at New Canaan High School, CT, and Debbie Abilock, co-founder of NoodleTools, Inc., also discussed building close reading activities that promote critical resource evaluation.

Emerging Tech is a professional learning community (PLC) where school librarians can explore all the ways to integrate technology and 21st century learning into school library programs. The community hosts free monthly webinars and live chats. Online discussions provide an easy way to continue the conversation and share ideas and experiences with peers across the country, and around the world. You’ll have an opportunity to collaborate with other librarians as you learn about and explore the many uses of technology in school libraries.  This program is sponsored by Follett.
