Mastering Multiplication and Division Using Array Models
This webinar is part three of a three-part series entitled Extending Place Value Understanding from Smaller to Larger Numbers. The series covers research-informed strategies for supporting upper elementary students as they extend their thinking from numbers up to 1000 (which can be more easily modeled) to larger numbers, which are less readily modeled and more abstract to understand.
In this presentation, Dr. Sara Delano Moore explored how arrays can be used to support students’ developing understanding of multiplication and division with larger numbers. Examine the progression from arrays of concrete objects for operations on smaller numbers to more abstract open arrays working with larger numbers.
