Sara Heaps is the Head of Content for Nearpod. Sara began her career as a science teacher in a low-income school. During this time, she became a designated Master Teacher, served on the Leadership Team of her school as Science Department Head, and designed curriculum and professional development for her district. Recognizing the lack of high-quality resources that support the pedagogical demands of 21st century instruction, Sara joined Nearpod to lead the team that designs interactive digital resources for educators across the world. Joshua Tappan is the Professional Development Manager for Nearpod. Josh began his career as a science teacher in Atlanta Public Schools. After 3 years in the classroom, he wanted to combine his background in engineering with his passion for teaching, so he went on to study at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education in the Technology and Innovation in Education program. Josh then moved to the Bay Area to work as an analyst for NewSchools Venture Seed Fund, where he helped with investment and support work for a portfolio of early stage edtech start-ups. In January 2015, Josh joined Nearpod to lead professional development initiatives, including the PioNear program, a community of innovative educators who lead tech integration and Nearpod “how-to” workshops around the world. Kelly Mendoza is the Senior Manager of Professional Development for Common Sense Education. She develops multimedia professional development courses, videos, and trains educators on teaching digital citizenship, integrating technology into teaching, engaging parents, and helping students harness the potential of technology for learning. Kelly also helped develop Common Sense’s K-12 Digital Literacy and Citizenship curriculum. Prior to Common Sense, through her work at the Media Education Lab at Temple University, Kelly produced education resources for PBS Frontline (Digital Nation and Growing Up Online), PBS Teachers, and taught undergraduate media and communication courses.
