The Medal of Honor is the highest military award the United States can bestow. Yet the journey of the Medal from its inception to today has often been tumultuous and dramatic. This webinar focused on engaging ideas for teaching the colorful history of the Medal to students and supporting them in navigating the often tenuous balance between sacrifice, merit, and recognition. Participants explored the history of the Medal of Honor; practiced strategies for student critical thinking, including problem-solving, argument, definition, and process analysis; discussed the inherent difficulty of “completely fair” award programs; and discovered practical ways to support students’ intrinsic motivation.
