Technology is prevalent in everyday life; it affords us as educators the chance to connect our students with other learners from across the globe, or even across the classroom. Today, more students are choosing to travel and study internationally to encounter new cultural experiences first-hand. It is essential that we teach them how to effectively communicate with their peers in different countries and from different cultures.

In this recorded webinar, learn from two students who engaged with the free Generation Global program during their high school years, and have continued to stay involved with the program into their post-secondary education as student moderators. Scott Chua is native to the Philippines and currently attends college in Singapore and Hailey Lister is a college student in Los Angeles. Scott and Hailey shared how their Generation Global experiences have made them more effective in global communication, understanding and embracing differences, and navigating cultural diversity in real-world situations. They highlighted their most memorable and impactful experiences from video-conferencing and chatting with students virtually, and the lasting impact the global experience has had on their lives. They also shared personal stories on how dialogue, understanding, and connecting with peers across the globe has helped them become better global citizens, more active listeners, and improved critical thinkers.

Watch to learn:

  • How cultural dialogue can impact your students far beyond high school
  • How to integrate dialogue and understanding into your existing lessons to elevate your students’ critical thinking and active listening skills
  • How dialogue can break down cultural barriers and personal stereotypes to help your students see that their peers living across the world face similar challenges, have similar interests, and that we aren’t so different after all.

Not only will these dialogue skills better prepare your students for work and life beyond school, but they will allow them to successfully navigate the difficult conversations and differences they will encounter when interacting with students of a different culture, both domestically and abroad. This webinar is designed for middle and high school educators (especially those teaching social studies, history, civics and ELA) as well as library/media specialists, and district and building administrators.
