Designing Options for Every Learner: Universal Design for Learning

Presented by Christopher Bugaj, Assistive Technology Trainer, Loudoun County Public Schools; with Mark Nichols, Special Education Supervisor, Loudoun County Public Schools
Sponsored by Quill.com | Co-hosted by Big Deal Media

This recording is no longer available.

Traditionally teachers plan a lesson, and then with support of a special educator, the lesson is adapted to meet the needs of students who have disabilities. In this interactive, collaborative webinar, attendees learned to use the principles of universal design to work together to practice a model where lessons are created with every learner in mind. Using a collective prior knowledge of instructional technology tools, they worked together to convert the content traditionally delivered on a paper-based worksheet into an authentic, meaningful learning experience that engages a spectrum of abilities and interests. Loudoun County Public Schools’ Christopher Bugaj and Mark Nichols provided a new model for lesson planning to share with your district, as well as a host of tools and strategies for using contemporary educational tools to meet the needs of every learner.

Viewers will come away equipped to:

  • describe the three pillars/principles of Universal Design for Learning;
  • redesign a lesson with a Universal Design for Learning perspective; and
  • share a key phrase to summarize a Universal Design for Learning framework.

This webinar recording will be useful for any educator including teachers, media specialists, administrators, technology resource teachers, related service staff, and parents.
