One of the most challenging parts of working with students with autism is the maladaptive behaviors often associated with these students. As educators, it is important to understand that students use these behaviors to communicate a variety of things. In order to effectively eliminate maladaptive behaviors we have to understand what the student is trying to communicate. The process to do this is called a Functional Behavior Assessment.
