Summer months are important planning months for school and district leaders. What you say and how you say it to parents during these months is important to ensuring a smooth school start in August.

In this webinar, Amity Chandler, Director of Communications, Public Relations and Marketing for Lee County Schools in Florida, discussed key strategies in communicating with parents during the summer months and making the communication about important topics stick. Amity shared ways to help parents navigate the summer months with a focus on these areas:

• Summer learning slag
• Changes in dress code
• At-home learning activities
• A push for the local library summer programs and a library card right now, including a summer reading proclamation, summer reading lists, and other great resources

This professional development session will be beneficial for K-12 school leaders and communications professionals who understand the importance of continuing the school and district narrative with stakeholders, especially parents, during the summer months.  Amity Chandler is the Director of Communications for the School District of Lee County in Florida. During her three years with Lee County, the District has converted all websites to mobile browser friendly platforms, implemented a branded app for community use and upgraded parent communication to include text messaging. Amity regularly provides support and training to school leaders to create effective and measurable marketing campaigns to better brand and sell their schools. Earlier in her career, Chandler worked in the not-for-profit arena where she received the coveted National Coalition of the Year Award from the Community Anti-Drug Coalition of America (CADCA). She also has worked as a consultant, a trainer for the Department of Children and Families and the Florida Office of Drug Control, and she also managed the Governor’s Youth Delegation under Florida Governor Charlie Crist and Florida Drug Czar Bill James. Amity has a Masters of Public Administration from Florida Gulf Coast University and is a Doctoral Candidate at the University of South Florida. Follow her on Twitter @amitychandler.
